Montgomery County Volunteer CenterHas a listing of 2,000 volunteer jobs that need to be done. Volunteers are needed to work in schools, soup kitchens, and hospitals. They are needed to translate for people who speak languages other than English, to perform clerical tasks, to create databases, and to advocate for abused and neglected children. The list of jobs needing to be done is very extensive.

The Alexandria JayceesProvide leadership training through community service for its 250+ members. The Alexandria Jaycees is one of the largest and most active Jaycee chapters in the United States. Founded in 1940, we service the City of Alexandria, but there are no requirements that you work or live in Alexandria to participate.
The Gaithersburg/Germantown JayceesThe premier organization for adults between the ages of 21 and 39. If you want to meet people, make new friends, help the community, improve your career, learn cool stuff and have a lot of fun then the Jaycees is for you!
The Lost Dog & Cat Rescue FoundationActively involved in taking in and finding new, loving homes for at risk cats and dogs. Lost Dog conducts public adoption events at local pet shops and various community events on weekends. These events are staffed by volunteers who interview prospective adopters, answer questions about the animals, and take advantage of the opportunity to educate the public on the benefits of spaying and neutering; the need to obtain proper veterinary care; and of providing basic obedience training to their pets.
The Washington Humane Society (WHS)Works to prevent cruelty to animals by enforcing animal protection laws, educating people about animals, and providing shelter to homeless and abused animals. WHS operates the DC animal shelter and always needs volunteers to help find homes for the wonderful animals that find their way to the shelter. There are many opportunities: Adoptions Representative (showing animals to prospective adopters), House Visitor (visiting the home of a prospective adopter before the adoption is finalized) and Wildlife Transporter (taking injured, young or sick wildlife to a re-hab center) are just a few examples.

United Cerebral Palsy's Experiences UnlimitedA non-profit organization in NE DC. Over 100 people attend EU every day and we provide various experiences throughout the day for them. We offer a range of volunteer opportunities that you may be able to fill -- assisting with the lunches, reading to a group or an individual, or just as an extra pair of hands in one of our many daily activities. We can also use volunteers to assist persons with disabilities to complete such tasks as : reading, writing, communicating, and accessing on-line information, preparing a shopping list for a meal, making a purchase in our Economy Store. The opportunities are endless. We welcome musicians, singers, artists, actors and actresses. We feel, "The Sky Is NOT The Limit" for our clients. A small group recently visited an airport and took their first, brief plane ride. Young Widow Widower Group (YWWG)A social group of 30-50ish widow/ers that get together the first Weds of the month at Rocky Run in Columbia (Dobbins Road at Rte 175) for Happy Hour from 6:30 - 9:30.
